FAUVISM :

THEN & NOW

Term 2 2024

Students will learn about Fauvism | Then & Now and how selected artists produced their artworks and how contemporary artists produce their works today.

Classes are an 8 week Term from 6 May to 27 June 2024

In this 8-week course, you will develop and further understand the creative process and progress your art technique in a fun and supportive environment.

This term we start with Line Drawings in ink based on the works of Henri Matisse and we look at his influence on modern art. We then step into Self Portraits, looking at the works of Paul Gauguin, Andre Derain and Ken Done.

Then it’s Colourful Interiors and the wonderous views through the windows created by Matisse and Maurice de Vlaminck. We then journey through a world of Colourful Landscapes of Gauguin and Vassily Kandinsky.

We round out the term with a look at some Australian Contemporary Artists influenced by the Fauvists, including Joan Blond and Archibald Finalist, Katherine Hattam.

We will explore inks, acrylic paint, gouache, oil pastels, watercolours, mixed media, collage and pen & wash. Other techniques will include drawing as drawing underpins most of our process art techniques. We will also explore a variety of subject matters related to portraiture, landscapes, animals, still life, urban landscapes and the human figure.

Our process based art studio teaching is founded in the Great Art Movements, and each week we explore a different era of Art History and Fine Art Techniques!

Create a Body of Work masterpiece to take home!

The first 6 weeks are spent learning various techniques and in the last few weeks, you develop your own Fauvism inspired mini Body of Work masterpiece based on the choice of techniques we looked at over the course of the term!
